Echo Frames (3rd Gen) is Amazon's audio-only smart glasses: no display, no camera, two speakers, four microphones and Bluetooth 5.2 to a phone running the Alexa app. At 38.7 grams and rated IPX4, it launched at $269.99 in September 2023; Amazon's own listing showed $299.99 in September 2026, and PCMag cites sales as low as $194.99.
Pocket-lint rated it 4 out of 5, praising the light build and the clear microphones, and TechCrunch found the sound and the rated 14-hour battery both improved over the prior generation. PCMag added that the charging stand and the Alexa voice commands worked well.
The open-ear format still shows limits. PCMag found no bass, ambient noise overwhelming the sound outdoors, and sound leaking to people nearby. Pocket-lint called the battery underwhelming and the charging finicky, and TechCrunch called the price high for what the glasses offer.
There is no way to build software for the hardware: Amazon's own developer site lists no SDK or sideload path for the glasses, only the separate Alexa Skills Kit for voice across its device line. Echo Frames fits someone already living inside Alexa who wants hands-free audio, not a developer, a photographer, or a buyer in Brazil or China, where Amazon does not sell it.
Verdict
Echo Frames (3rd Gen) is Amazon's audio-only glasses: no display, no camera, no SDK beyond the Alexa Skills Kit. PCMag found no bass at all; Pocket-lint liked the 38.7 gram build. It suits an Alexa user wanting hands-free audio, not a developer or a buyer in Brazil or China.
