- 1.Display type. A 0.23 inch micro OLED panel seen through a non polarized 50/50 beamsplitter prism, a birdbath combiner. Monocular, below the line of sight of the right eye only. From Brilliant Labs' hardware docs, with the optics analysed by kguttag.com on 2024-05-09.
- 2.Resolution. 640x400 RGB pixels, right eye only, from Brilliant Labs' hardware docs.
- 3.Video. 1280x720 from the camera sensor. Stills taken through the app are cropped to 720x720. Brilliant Labs hardware docs.
- 4.Wi-Fi. No Wi-Fi radio at all. The glasses pair with the Noa companion app over Bluetooth only. Brilliant Labs hardware docs.
- 5.Bluetooth. Bluetooth 5.3, from Brilliant Labs' hardware docs.
- 6.Chip. A Nordic nRF52840 is the main Bluetooth microcontroller: ARM Cortex-M4F at 64 MHz, 256 KB of RAM and 1 MB of flash. Next to it a Lattice CrossLink-NX LIFCL-17 FPGA drives the display and reads the camera, and its RTL source is published in the frame-codebase repository. Brilliant Labs hardware docs, confirmed by geeky-gadgets.com on 2024-02-13 and auganix.org on 2024-02-08.
- 7.System. Brilliant Labs gives Frame no general purpose operating system. On device logic runs as Lua 5.4 scripts on a custom firmware machine over the nRF52840. The later Halo runs ZephyrOS instead. From the brilliant_sdk repository and the Frame SDK docs.
US$349 at the launch on 2024-02-08, on the archived store page. Brilliant Labs no longer sells Frame new: the product page returned 404 on 2026-09-06. Factory prescription lenses added US$99, and no price in CNY or BRL was found.

Our review
For
- Pocket-lint said the 39 gram frame looks like ordinary glasses, not overtly smart glasses.
- Reality Atlas called it the most accessible developer platform, with a documented Python SDK.
- The FPGA's own RTL source is public too, so even the camera and graphics pipeline can be modified.
- Sypnotix noted the Frame actually ships, unlike many other crowdfunded smart glasses projects.
- 9to5Google called the display sharper than Google Glass and liked the magnetic charging connector.
Against
- Pocket-lint and Sypnotix both found charging cumbersome, needing the separate Mister Power connector.
- Pocket-lint and Sypnotix both reported frequent Bluetooth disconnects between glasses and app.
- Pocket-lint said the prism sits visibly on the lens, and 9to5Google said it blocks the line of sight.
- 9to5Google and Sypnotix both found setup and pairing confusing, with Android non-functional at review time.
- Brilliant Labs no longer sells Frame new: the product page returned a 404 in September 2026.
Frame is Brilliant Labs' 39 gram AI glasses from Singapore, launched February 2024 at $349, with a monocular 640x400 micro-OLED at 20-degree field of view, projected below the right eye through a beamsplitter prism. It pairs a 720p camera and one microphone to the Noa app over Bluetooth 5.3 only, no Wi-Fi, no speaker, on a Nordic nRF52840 chip plus a Lattice FPGA.
Brilliant Labs open-sources Frame down to the FPGA's own RTL, shipping a BSD-3-Clause SDK in Python, Flutter and WebBluetooth over an on-device Lua VM, with no approval gate to sideload or rewrite firmware. Reality Atlas called it the most accessible platform for prototyping this AI hardware, and 9to5Google liked the sharp display and magnetic charging connector.
The same reviewers found real hardware trouble. 9to5Google reported flexible plastic, reflective lenses and headaches on long wear; Pocket-lint and Sypnotix logged frequent Bluetooth disconnects; Pocket-lint said the prism sits visibly on the lens, and 9to5Google said it blocks the line of sight. Sypnotix found the AI capped at 2,000 credits a month.
Brilliant Labs no longer sells Frame new: its product page returned a 404 in September 2026, and the storefront now lists only the successor, Halo. Frame fits a developer who wants to hack open hardware to the chip, not someone who wants a comfortable daily display or a product still sold new.
Verdict
Frame is discontinued: its product page 404s, and Brilliant Labs' store now sells only the successor, Halo. Pocket-lint and 9to5Google praised the open SDK but flagged Bluetooth dropouts and a visible prism. It fits a developer chasing open hardware, not someone who wants a product still sold new.
