Notes

  1. 1.Display type. No display of any kind. The only things the wearer sees or feels are an LED at the edge of vision and a vibration: red for a hardware fault, yellow when the glasses are ready to pair, blue when paired, green while the expression engine calibrates, and a long buzz when the battery drops below 30 percent.
  2. 2.Bluetooth. Bluetooth Low Energy is the only radio on board. The brochure puts the whole stream at about 4 kb/s, and the documentation adds that the glasses switch themselves off if the link drops or nothing connects for five minutes. Emteq does not publish the Bluetooth version.

No public price. Emteq Labs sells OCOsense through Brain Products, which calls itself the exclusive worldwide sales channel for Emteq products in the research market, and neither site shows a figure before a quote. The Order now button on emteqlabs.com opens a Stripe checkout with no amount visible first. Read on 09/09/2026.

What we measured in the lab

We did not measure this device in the lab.

Our review

For

  • The maker keeps a live documentation site with the sensor list, the sampling rate and the file format.
  • Lab Streaming Layer and an open-source Python client line the data up with EEG and eye tracking.
  • The weight is answered exactly in the manufacturer FAQ, 90.65 g, and not rounded in marketing.
  • Sound is detected without recording what was said, and the brochure states that plainly.
  • Peer-reviewed validation of chewing detection came out in Elsevier journals in 2025 and 2026.

Against

  • No display, no speaker and no camera specification: it measures the wearer, it shows nothing.
  • Neither the maker nor the exclusive distributor publishes a price anywhere.
  • Sold for academic research only, and the distributor forbids medical use in capital letters.
  • Up to four hours of battery, and the brochure ties even that figure to the performance mode.
  • No way to run code on the glasses; the C++ and Python SDK is still listed as coming soon.

OCOsense is not a pair of smart glasses in the sense the rest of this catalogue uses the word. There is no screen, no speaker and no photography. Six OCO optomyography sensors, recessed in the frame and working from 4 mm to 30 mm without touching the skin, six proximity sensors, a 9-axis IMU and an altimeter read the face and the body at 50 Hz and send about 4 kb/s over Bluetooth Low Energy to an iPad or a Mac.

What can be checked is unusually well documented. Emteq keeps a live support site with the sensor layout, the file header and the sampling rate, and answers the weight question with 90.65 g. The brochure adds up to four hours of run time and CE marking. Two microphones register that sound happened without recording what was said.

What cannot be checked is the price. Brain Products is the exclusive worldwide sales channel, sells to the research market only, and shows no figure. Emteq's product page had simply moved: the /ocosense link its own menu still carries returns 404, while the same page is alive at /research.

Verdict

No independent review of this device has been found as of September 9, 2026. The Emteq brochure gives six OCO sensors at 50 Hz, a 9-axis IMU, an altimeter, 90.65 g and up to four hours of battery, with no display at all. Brain Products sells it worldwide for research only, and neither company publishes a price.
