DC Rainmaker bought and tested the Smart Swim 2 in 2024 and the Gorilla Glass PRO in 2025, and both reviews call the automatic swim tracking exceptional: lap and turn detection needs no manual input, and distance tracking held up across turn types. The 2024 test also called the optical heart-rate sensor's accuracy strong, though the 2025 test found its positioning fiddly on the PRO.
The display sits in one lens over a patented FORM waveguide; DC Rainmaker called it crisp and clear, matching FORM's own promotional images, but also found the resulting peripheral vision extremely reduced, a bigger problem in open water than in a pool. Three SKUs share the platform: the LT at US$149 drops the heart-rate sensor, the standard Smart Swim 2 at US$199 adds it, and the PRO at US$259 adds a Gorilla Glass lens that DC Rainmaker's durability testing found highly scratch-resistant.
For anyone asking whether they can build for it, the answer is no: FORM's own integrations page lists only consumer data links to Strava, TrainingPeaks, Garmin and Apple Watch, with no public SDK or developer API for the goggles themselves.
Core swim tracking needs no subscription, but DC Rainmaker flagged the paywall on adaptive training plans, US$9.99 a month or US$119 a year, in both reviews, along with a proprietary magnetic charging cable that still lacks USB-C as of the 2025 test.
Verdict
DC Rainmaker, who bought and tested both goggles long-term, calls the automatic lap tracking and heart-rate accuracy excellent, but says the extremely reduced side vision and the subscription needed for adaptive training hold the Smart Swim 2 back from an easy recommendation, especially in open water.
