No official price had been announced up to 2026-09-06 (confirmed by an independent sweep on 2026-09-06: no official store, press release or major retailer lists a price or an on-sale date). Press speculation: Yanko Design (Ida Torres, 2026-05-21) estimates 'USD 500 or more' for the Gentle Monster edition, above the Warby Parker variant, citing how expensive plain Gentle Monster frames already are (USD 200 to 500) before any electronics. SNKRDUNK (2026-05-21) and other outlets repeat the same speculative reference range (USD 200 to 500 for the frame alone). An earlier and more specific leak (OnLeaks and Android Headlines, 2026-04-29, renders of a test unit; reiterated by Road to VR and Tom's Guide on 2026-05-04 via VR.org) puts the display-free Samsung hardware platform, codenamed 'Jinju', the same audio layer Gentle Monster is confirmed on, in the USD 379 to 499 range, with a premium micro-LED variant (codenamed 'Haean', expected only in 2027) estimated by analysts at USD 600 to 900; none of those sources ties the 'Jinju' price to a specific design brand, Gentle Monster or Warby Parker. Android Central (2026-07-27) and Chrome Unboxed (2026-07-26 and 27), not August as an earlier version of this record had it, report Samsung's XR executive Choi Jae-in saying at a press briefing after the Galaxy Unpacked in London (2026-07-22) that the price will be 'at a reasonable level, but positioned initially in the premium range', with no figure; neither of those two stories mentions the USD 600 to 900 range. None of these values is an observed official price, which is why priceUsd, priceCny and priceBrl stay null.

Our review

For

  • GSMArena found the cat-eye frame reads as ordinary glasses from a distance.
  • The charging case holds seven or more full recharges on top of the glasses' own 9-hour claim.
  • Yanko Design noted the companion app pairs with both Android and iOS phones.
  • Google publishes the Android XR SDK openly, with a Gemini Live API for developers.
  • GSMArena found the demo units felt sturdy, with touch-sensitive temple controls plus voice.

Against

  • GSMArena flagged the camera's missing physical cover as a real privacy concern.
  • Up close, GSMArena still spotted the thicker temples, visible camera and LED indicator.
  • Google's open SDK targets the whole Android XR platform; no source confirms sideloading here.
  • Google and Samsung have announced no price, only a vague fall 2026 launch window.
  • GSMArena noted visible fingerprint marks on the frame's finish.

Google, Samsung and Gentle Monster unveiled this audio-only Android XR frame at Google I/O on May 19, 2026, one of the first two design partners alongside Warby Parker; a second Gentle Monster shape followed at Samsung's July 22 Galaxy Unpacked. GSMArena's eyes-on called the cat-eye shape convincing as ordinary eyewear from a distance, and the demo units felt sturdy, with touch-sensitive temple controls layered over voice commands.

There is no display: a front camera, open-ear speakers and a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip run Gemini features such as live translation, navigation and photo capture, paired over an app that Yanko Design confirms works with both Android and iOS phones. Google and Samsung claim 9 hours of battery, backed by a case rated for seven or more full recharges.

Google's Android XR SDK is public, with a Jetpack XR toolkit and a Gemini Live API through Firebase, but that door opens onto the whole platform, headsets included; no source confirms whether this retail frame accepts a sideloaded app the way an ordinary Android phone does.

GSMArena's closer look found the giveaways up close: thicker temples, a visible camera, an LED indicator, and fingerprint marks on the finish. It called the missing camera cover a real privacy concern on glasses meant to record hands-free. Google and Samsung still name no price, only a fall 2026 window.

Verdict

GSMArena's eyes-on found the Gentle Monster frame convincing as ordinary eyewear from a distance, but flagged the missing camera cover as a real privacy concern. Google and Samsung have named no price or exact date, so this fits only those curious to watch the bet play out, not anyone ready to buy.
