For

  • OFweek measured 100,000:1 contrast and 82% transmittance on the color waveguide display.
  • The 16MP camera zooms 1x to 4x for first-person capture, per OFweek's testing.
  • Physical buttons on the temples cut accidental touches, unlike touch-only rivals, per OFweek.
  • Prescription myopia lenses can be built into the waveguide lens, per Sina Tech's coverage.

Against

  • OFweek measured only about 70 minutes of continuous video and 62 minutes of recording per charge.
  • Sideloading only: Goolton has not published a public SDK specific to the Star1S.
  • The CNY 7,999 price comes only from an executive's statement to Nanfang Plus, not a store listing.
  • OFweek found the AI assistant's tone overly formal and needing a manual tap after each answer.
  • No confirmed retail channel outside China was found for this exact model.

The Goolton Star1S is a standalone, Android-based binocular AR pair built around the company's own Micro-OLED array-waveguide module, at 90g with a 26-degree field of view and a 16MP camera. Goolton relaunched it in China on 30 October 2025 as the "Star1s", and it currently sells for CNY 7,999 according to a Goolton executive's statement to Nanfang Plus in February 2026, though no store page showing that price has been confirmed.

Can a developer write an app for it? Only informally. The glasses run an independent Android system that OFweek's reviewers installed Bilibili, Douyin, WeChat Work and other third-party apps onto, so sideloading works, but Goolton has not published SDK documentation specific to the Star1S itself, only a general developer platform for its wider product line.

OFweek's lab review, one of the few independent tests of a full-color AR pair on the market, measured 100,000:1 contrast and 82% transmittance on the waveguide and praised the temple buttons for cutting accidental touches next to the 16MP camera's 1x-4x zoom. It also measured only about 70 minutes of continuous video from the 600mAh battery, found the AI assistant needed a manual tap after every reply, and described its tone as overly formal.

Anyone who needs all-day use, a public SDK, or a verified retail price outside China should look elsewhere in the catalog.

Verdict

Goolton's Star1S is a full-color binocular AR pair whose 16MP camera and waveguide impressed OFweek's lab, which also measured only about 70 minutes of continuous video per charge. It suits a buyer in China chasing short AR sessions, not anyone needing all-day battery or a way to buy it abroad.
