How the score is built

For

  • Qualcomm documents the path: Snapdragon Spaces on Unity and Unreal, sideloaded from the phone.
  • immersiv.io found the hand tracking smooth and the surface detection solid.
  • Serious Insights built several virtual monitors, on Lenovo laptops only, and approved the fit.
  • Serious Insights calls the IP54 rating fit for an industrial floor.
  • Lenovo's datasheets list the ANSI Z87.1 norm and a prescription insert in the kit.

Against

  • Snapdragon Spaces needs a Motorola Edge 30 Pro or Edge+ running Android 13.
  • Industrial Edition applications require a paid ThinkReality software licence.
  • Serious Insights counts US$1,500 before lenses and a thin third-party catalogue.
  • The Ghost Howls saw wobbly tracking, colours darker than a monitor and about 50 degrees of view.
  • immersiv.io saw phone and glasses overheat in long sessions; Serious Insights calls the cable short.

The A3 is a 2021 enterprise accessory: binocular birdbath optics at 1920x1080 per eye and 45 pixels per degree, 200 nits, an 8-megapixel camera, three microphones, IP54 and 130 g, with no battery: power arrives over the USB-C tether. Lenovo publishes no price; US resellers listed US$1,499 on 2026-09-06.

The steps for a developer are documented, and they are exacting. Qualcomm's Snapdragon Spaces supports Unity and Unreal: the services APK and the samples come from Qualcomm and are sideloaded through a Motorola Edge 30 Pro or Edge+ on Android 13, while the glasses need their own firmware level and Android 14 is not supported. The companion app comes from Lenovo's setup flow, not the Play Store, and the device must be registered in ThinkReality Cloud.

The other route is closed: Industrial Edition apps for remote assistance and training are partner software behind a paid ThinkReality licence.

The reviews split along the same line. immersiv.io called the hand tracking smooth and the surface detection good, then listed compatibility limited to specific Lenovo and Motorola devices and overheating in long sessions. The Ghost Howls found the augmentations bright but the tracking wobbly and the colours darker than a monitor. Serious Insights got work out of the virtual monitors, a feature limited to Lenovo laptops, and called the field of view a box and the catalogue thin.

Verdict

The Lenovo with a documented development path, and a narrow one: Snapdragon Spaces on Unity or Unreal, sideloaded through a specific Motorola phone on Android 13. US$1,499 at US resellers, 130 g, no battery of its own. It works for a company that accepts that chain, not for whoever wants to install what they like.
