  1. 1.Display type. The official page describes "A Fusion of BirdBath & WaveGuide Technologies" over "Sony's Latest Panel", with a virtual screen equivalent to 174 inches at 4 metres. It is the same optical family as Viture's other viewers, with the waveguide layer added to the birdbath. [OFFICIAL, viture.com/beast]
  2. 2.Resolution. The official page says "Up to 1200p" per eye, and CGMagazine's review records 1920x1200. The advertised refresh rate is up to 120 Hz, but that same review recorded 60 Hz in practice through the Pro Dock, so the catalogue does not treat the 120 Hz as a measured figure. [OFFICIAL + REPORT]
  3. 3.System. The Beast is a viewer: it plugs into a phone, console or computer over USB-C and shows that device's image. Our review

For

  • 1250 nits across 58 degrees is the brightest and widest combination among the viewers in this catalogue.
  • 3DoF head tracking is inside the glasses, so it does not depend on a dock to hold the screen still.
  • Nine levels of electrochromic dimming go all the way to blacking out the room.
  • Three independent reviews tried it, and all three recommend it for watching and for gaming.

Against

  • No operating system, no camera and no app: it shows another device's picture and nothing else.
  • Viture's developer page does not name the Beast, so this catalogue leaves its openness unknown.
  • The advertised 120 Hz was 60 Hz in practice through the Pro Dock in the CGMagazine review.
  • Myopia is corrected with prescription lenses, not with the dial the Luma models carry.

Verdict

The Beast does one job at the top of its class: it takes the picture from a console, a phone or a laptop and puts it on a bright, wide, dimmable screen. The 3DoF sits inside the glasses instead of a dock, and the nine level dimming is what changes the feel, because blacking the room out separates a screen you glance at from one you watch. What it is not is a computer: no system, no camera, no app.
