ByteDance reportedly developing AI smart glasses to challenge Meta

ByteDance is reportedly developing its own AI smart glasses, having hired hardware-design engineers and begun discussions with supply-chain partners on functionality, specifications, cost and market-launch plans, according to reports from April 2025. The company is said to be focused on capturing 'decent-quality' photo and video without compromising battery life. Separately, ByteDance's mixed-reality unit Pico, after scaling back due to weak VR headset sales, was reported in mid-2025 to be developing a new AR-layering device, while Qualcomm and ByteDance announced a partnership at MWC 2025 to co-develop a next-generation VR headset.
