OpenAI and Jony Ive plan camera-equipped smart speaker for 2027, with glasses further out

MacRumors reported on February 20, 2026 that OpenAI's first hardware product with former Apple design chief Jony Ive will be a screen-free smart speaker with an integrated camera and Face-ID-like facial recognition, priced between $200 and $300 and targeted for an early-2027 launch. The report said OpenAI is also exploring a smart lamp and AI glasses, but that those products are not expected before 2028, following OpenAI's $6.5 billion acquisition of Ive's hardware startup io in May 2025.
