The camera sensor was upgraded during development from an original 8MP part ('wasn't cutting it') to a 12MP 'smart phone grade camera' to improve image quality while shrinking size and weight [OFFICIAL, mentraglass.com/blogs/blog/making-mentra-live, published 2025-12-21]; press coverage at launch (9to5Google, TechSpot) also reports 12MP. Unreconciled discrepancy: the live product page's own spec list separately states still-photo output as 3264x2448 px (~8MP), which does not match the 12MP sensor described elsewhere on Mentra's own site.

Mentra Live is a 43g pair of camera glasses with no display at all: a 12MP camera Mentra declares at a 119-degree field of view, 1080p video, three microphones and stereo speakers, run by a MediaTek MTK8766 chip. It shipped its first batch of 1,000 units on February 15, 2026 at a $299 launch price, and now sells on Mentra's own store for a standing $449 that bundles a charging case and a magnetic cable.
The developer story is the most open in this batch: MentraOS itself is published open source under Apache-2.0 on GitHub, and Mentra offers both a TypeScript MiniApp SDK, published to its own MiniApp Store, and a separate Bluetooth SDK for building companion Android, iOS or React Native apps. 9to5Google called the app ecosystem, with mini-apps like AI Notes, a real advantage over closed rivals.
VR Expert measured 11 to 12 hours of battery per charge, plus roughly 50 more hours from the bundled case, and called the glasses comfortable for extended daily wear at 43g. The same review found the frame arms heat up noticeably during prolonged high-definition recording, and flagged heavy reliance on a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection for streaming quality.
TechSpot's review, otherwise favorable, flagged that Mentra's own marketing names OnlyFans as a livestream destination, with no content-moderation policy discussed. Mentra ships to the United States only, and the price has already moved from the $299 launch batch to a $449 standing price.
Verdict
Mentra Live has no display, but MentraOS is fully open source on GitHub with both a MiniApp store and a Bluetooth SDK, the most direct answer to building an app for it in this batch. The price rose from a $299 launch batch to a $449 standing price, and Mentra ships to the United States only.
