Notes
- 1.Display type. A removable boom module with an OPAQUE monocular micro-LCD (not see-through), sitting below the line of sight; the 520 variant replaces that module with an LCoS one called HyperDisplay
- 2.Resolution. 854x480 (WVGA) on the Navigator 500; 1280x720 (HD) on the Navigator 520 with HyperDisplay
- 3.System. It launched with Android 11 (AOSP) plus the WearHF layer, and was updated over the air to Android 13 by Firmware Release 2.0 (2024-10-03). CORRECTION: 'Ari OS' is NOT the new name of that firmware. It is a distinct AI voice OS and assistant, officially announced only on 2026-08-28 and available only on the Navigator Z1; RealWear itself (support.realwear.com/knowledge/device-specifications, consulted on 2026-09-06) still lists the Navigator series OS as 'Android 13 (AOSP) + WearHF hands-free interface + Enterprise features', with no mention of Ari OS. The domain developer.ari-os.com (redirected from developer.realwear.com) is real, but it is the developer documentation portal under a new name, which does not prove the device OS was renamed.
- 4.Water protection. IP66; MIL-STD-810H; withstands a 2 m (6.5 ft) drop; operates from -20 C to 50 C (the maker cites up to 45 C for the 520 on one spec sheet and 50 C on another)
USD 2,500 at the December 2021 launch, with a three-year warranty. RealWear's own store no longer lists it; the reseller VR Expert showed USD 2,115 before tax on 2026-09-06. No BRL or CNY price found.

For
- Plain Android plus the WearHF library, with free public docs and no login wall.
- Sideload by drag and drop or ADB, without RealWear approval, per its support pages.
- Bitnamic lists a hot-swappable 2600 mAh battery and up to eight hours of use.
- The Ghost Howls found the voice recognition reliable and the display readable.
- The datasheet gives IP66 and MIL-STD-810H, a 2 m drop and -20 °C to 50 °C.
Against
- Bitnamic and VR Expert both name the 854x480 display as the part that did not move.
- The Ghost Howls saw eye strain in long sessions and red light leak in high-contrast scenes.
- Voice is nearly the only input: VR Expert counts few alternatives, The Ghost Howls calls the menus slow.
- Publishing on the RealWear Marketplace needs a US$1,200 a year developer program.
- No longer sold alone by RealWear: resellers quoted US$2,115 and US$2,600 in 2026.
The Navigator 500 is a head-strap computer, not glasses: a boom arm holds an opaque 854x480 micro-LCD below the line of sight, 20 degrees wide, over a Snapdragon 662 with 4 GB and 64 GB, a 48 MP swappable camera at 1080p60, a 2600 mAh hot-swap battery rated at eight hours, and IP66 at 272 g.
The three reviews agree on what it does and lacks. Bitnamic recommended it for remote service in May 2022, flatly. VR Expert called it one of the best industrial headsets for remote work, then listed the display unchanged, no 4K and few controls besides voice. The Ghost Howls, in June 2022, called it a real gain for maintenance, then reported eye strain over long sessions, voice menus slower than a touchpad, camera framing off the natural line of sight, and red light leak.
Here the developer question gets a yes: plain Android in Java or Kotlin plus WearHF for voice, public free documentation, and sideloading by drag and drop in RealWear Explorer or an ADB push, no approval. RealWear moved it to Android 13 AOSP by OTA in October 2024, and lists no Ari OS for the line. The Marketplace is gated by a US$1,200 a year developer program that includes one Navigator 500.
Not for anyone who wants prescription lenses or a normal frame: RealWear sells no insert and expects it over your own glasses. Its store no longer lists the 500 alone, and resellers quoted US$2,115 and US$2,600 in September 2026.
Verdict
This is the RealWear you can write code on today, and the one RealWear hands to developers: its US$1,200 a year program ships with a Navigator 500. The cost is 272 g on the head, an 854x480 display that Bitnamic and VR Expert both call the part that did not move, and no lens insert for whoever needs one.

Where it is used
- The lesson is the point of view
- Look at the label, get the answer, keep both hands on the box
- Nothing on this page makes a diagnosis. What the glasses carry is another doctor
- The weakest evidence on this site, and we are not hiding it
- Here the glasses are the instrument, and two studies say what they cost
- Inspecting a Chinese factory without getting on the plane
