Notes

  1. 1.Display type. Snap's proprietary liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) micro-display projected through a see-through waveguide lens built from billions of nanostructures ('more than 10,000 can fit on the tip of a single hair'), paired with electrochromic lenses that shift from clear to tinted in about 10 seconds to keep AR overlays visible in bright ambient light [OFFICIAL, newsroom.snap.com/introducing-specs-augmented-reality-glasses and investor.snap.com press release, both 2026-06-16].
  2. 2.Chip. Two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, one dedicated to computer vision, one dedicated to running Lenses/AR experiences, confirmed by Snap's own press materials and by Snap and Qualcomm's joint 'strategic collaboration' announcement, which refers only generically to 'Snapdragon XR platforms' without naming exact model numbers [OFFICIAL, newsroom.snap.com/snap-qualcomm-strategic-collaboration-specs-2026, 2026-04-10].

US$2,195 with a US$200 refundable deposit, announced on 2026-06-16. Preorders only, for the US, UK and France, with shipping promised for fall 2026. Not sold in China, and no price in reais.

Our review

For

  • TechCrunch calls the on-device AI in its hands-on demo impressive, since Specs needs no phone or puck to compute.
  • Snap ships official prescription inserts and multiple nose pads, confirmed on the announcement page.
  • Welp Magazine measured 7 ms motion-to-photon latency across the 51 degree field of view.
  • Lens Studio is free and public, with a native C/C++ kit and tools that plug into Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
  • A recording LED signals when the camera is active, TechCrunch notes.

Against

  • At $2,195, Welp Magazine says the price targets developers, not mainstream buyers.
  • Snap claims only about 4 hours of battery, extendable to roughly 20 hours with a separate case.
  • T3 says the arms visibly press on the ears at 132 to 136 grams, even on Snap's own CEO on stage.
  • The Ghost Howls reports no journalist was allowed to try the glasses at the unveiling, only view sealed units.
  • Preorders and shipping cover only the US, UK and France, with no China or Brazil availability.

Snap unveiled Specs on June 16, 2026, its first standalone AR glasses for sale rather than rental, priced at $2,195 with preorders open for a $200 refundable deposit. The glasses weigh 132 g or 136 g depending on frame size, project through an LCoS waveguide with a 51 degree field of view, and run on two Snapdragon chips, one for computer vision and one for Lens experiences, with no phone or external puck required.

Coverage of the reveal split on how hands-on it actually was. TechCrunch says it played with the apps and called the contextual AI impressive, and Welp Magazine measured 7 ms motion-to-photon latency. The Ghost Howls, covering the same event, reports that Snap let no journalist actually try the hardware, only view finished units in sealed cases.

The development side looks more settled: Lens Studio is a free, public download, extended for Specs with a native C/C++ kit and tools that plug into Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. Snap says hundreds of Lenses were already published at launch.

None of that changes what the reviews keep repeating: T3 says the arms visibly press on the ears even at a launch demo, and both Welp Magazine and The Ghost Howls frame the roughly 4-hour battery and the $2,195 price as aimed at developers, not consumers. Preorders ship only to the US, UK and France for now, with no delivery date announced as of this research.

Verdict

Snap has not shipped a single Specs unit as of this research, and outside accounts of the June 2026 unveiling disagree even on whether journalists got to try them. What both sides agree on is the math: a $2,195 price and roughly 4 hours of battery aimed squarely at developers, not everyday buyers.
