Notes
- 1.Display type. A pair of Sony micro-OLED panels (one per eye) with proprietary optical see-through 'X Prism' optics and 5 level electrochromic dimming; a dedicated Xreal X1S spatial coprocessor for tracking and stabilisation
- 2.Chip. A dual-chip 'split-compute' architecture: the glasses carry the Xreal X1S spatial coprocessor (per the official page, for 'low-latency spatial display, sensor processing, and stable XR experiences'; it is the two tracking cameras that do the 6DoF spatial anchoring and hand tracking, listed separately); the external compute puck (connected by cable) carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite. CORRECTED: the Aura is the FIRST confirmed device with that chip, not a platform 'also used in the Samsung Galaxy XR' as the earlier version of this file said; the Galaxy XR uses the previous generation, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, which is precisely the baseline for the gains Qualcomm announces (up to 60% in GPU, 30% in CPU and 160% in NPU for the Reality Elite over the XR2+ Gen 2)
- 3.System. Android XR (Google), with the multimodal Gemini assistant built in; access to the Google Play Store and to more than 100 native XR apps announced for launch
The ceiling Xreal announced is US$1,500 before tax, not a final price. It covers the base model; on 2026-09-05 the refundable US$199 deposit was still open, and the US$299 and US$99 tiers had sold out.

Our review
For
- Xreal declares Android XR with Google Play access, so the Android toolchain reaches it.
- Road to VR and Gizmodo both called the micro OLED image sharp and bright in their demos.
- Gizmodo called the 70 degree field the widest it had seen, enough for several app windows.
- Xreal declares 91 grams for the glasses, with the 4455 mAh battery moved to the puck.
- Road to VR liked the dimming tied into Android XR and the PC Connect screen streaming.
Against
- No eye tracking: Road to VR and Gizmodo both list it as a limit on how you give input.
- Gizmodo found the hand tracking inconsistent; Skarredghost found it too laggy for fast action.
- Road to VR and Skarredghost saw pupil swim on head movement; Road to VR warned of dizziness.
- Skarredghost felt strain after about 30 minutes and put the tethered puck near 300 grams.
- Not on sale yet: hardware comes only by Catalyst selection, and Brazil and China are off the list.
Nothing published about the Aura is a retail unit. Xreal declares 91 gram glasses with two Sony micro OLED panels at 1920x1200 per eye, 70 degrees of field, five levels of electrochromic dimming and four microphones, cabled to a puck with the Snapdragon Reality Elite and a 4455 mAh battery.
The developer answer is the reason to watch it. The glasses run Android XR with Gemini and Google Play access, and Xreal announces more than 100 native XR apps for launch. Until then, hardware comes only by selection into Google's Android XR Catalyst program, with a deadline Xreal cited as 30/06/2026, and no Android XR SDK page found names the Aura.
The three hands on pieces agree on the limits, and each complaint appears twice. Road to VR and Gizmodo record the absence of eye tracking as a limit on input. The hand tracking that replaces it was inconsistent for Gizmodo and too laggy for fast action for Skarredghost. Road to VR found the dimming excessive even at zero percent, and Skarredghost, who also found the vertical field frustrating at AWE 2026, says the darkening cuts the sense of AR.
The US$1,500 is a ceiling declared before tax for the base model, and 9to5Google reads it as a hedge against component cost. Xreal announces the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan and around 20 European countries for the autumn of 2026, and neither China nor Brazil.
Verdict
Nothing published is a retail unit: the three hands on pieces used pre release samples. Xreal declares 91 gram glasses tethered to an Android XR puck, 70 degrees and 1920x1200 per eye, under a US$1,500 ceiling that is not yet a price. Android developers should watch it; Brazil and China are off the launch list.
