Notes

  1. 1.Display type. Monocular OLED microdisplay (nHD, 640x360), usable with the left or the right eye
  2. 2.Video. 1080p at 60 fps streaming (detailed official spec sheet); that same sheet and the official site also advertise, in marketing copy, a "4K video streaming auto-focus camera", an unresolved inconsistency between Vuzix's own spec table and its marketing copy
  3. 3.System. Android 13 (modified by Vuzix; upgradable over the air). At launch (September 2019) it shipped with Android 8.1, went through Android 9 (2020) and Android 11 before the upgrade to Android 13 (general availability announced on 2024-10-14). The current spec sheet (PDF v7.5, May 2025) and the official site still say "Upgradable to Android 13 OS".
  4. 4.Water protection. IP67 (protected against water and dust); the Xtreme Weather battery is also IP67, with an operating range of -20 C to 45 C; drop-safe at 2 metres

US$1,499.99 is the list price of the M400 Xtreme kit on vuzix.com, read on 2026-09-06. That same day both kit variants showed as sold out. No public price in China or Brazil.

How the score is built

For

  • Vuzix declares IP67, a 2 metre drop rating and up to 12 hours with the 3,200 mAh pack.
  • HUD Resources and the Connectivity SDK are public on GitHub, with javadoc published.
  • Vuzix says most Android apps built for minSdkVersion 27 run on it as they are.
  • Net4Connect counted six ways to wear it and praised its power management and battery life.
  • Vuzix lists it as upgradable to Android 13; it shipped with Android 8.1 in 2019.

Against

  • VR Expert called the touchpad unintuitive and unresponsive and voice control unreliable in noise.
  • VR Expert called the 640x360 panel low in resolution and the 16.8 degree field of view narrow.
  • Vuzix publishes no weight; VR Expert cites 182 g and other figures run from 68 g to 190 g.
  • Vuzix sells no prescription lens for it, only a 29.99 dollar frame ready for a third party insert.
  • Both kit variants showed as sold out on vuzix.com on 6 September 2026, with the price still listed.

The M400 is not worn like glasses. It is a monocular module holding display, camera and computer, clipped to a universal rail on Vuzix's own headband. Inside sits a Snapdragon XR1 at 2.52 GHz with 6 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage, a 640x360 OLED across 16.8 degrees at 2,000 nits, and a 12.8 MP camera, though Vuzix's current sheet says up to 13 MP.

It is built to be dropped and rained on. Vuzix rates it IP67 and drop safe to 2 metres, and quotes up to 12 hours on the hot swappable 3,200 mAh pack. Its own spec table lists 1080p at 60 fps while the marketing copy on the same page claims 4K, a contradiction the file records without resolving.

For a developer the path is open and documented. Vuzix publishes the HUD Resources library and the Connectivity SDK on GitHub with javadoc, supports Unity, Xamarin, Flutter and Unreal, and says most Android apps built for minSdkVersion 27 run as they are.

The complaints are about controls and fit. VR Expert called the touchpad unintuitive and unresponsive, voice control unreliable in noisy places, the frame fragile, and reported nose and ear pressure; Net4Connect found the same controls fine and faulted only the top buttons, which take a hand off the job. Vuzix publishes no weight, third party figures spread from 68 g to 190 g, and on 6 September 2026 both kits showed sold out while still listing 1,499.99 dollars.

Verdict

Not a pair of glasses but a module on a headband: a 640x360 monocular display, IP67, a 2 metre drop rating and up to 12 hours on a 3,200 mAh pack, 1,499.99 dollars and sold out on Vuzix's store on 6 September 2026. It runs Android 13 where the Blade 2 and the Shield stay on 11. For field work, not for a face.
